Hervey Bay annual family events calendar

An annual calendar is valuable only if the year is visible and the dates are current. Hervey Bay has recurring event names, but that does not make last year’s Saturday valid in 2027.

This page publishes confirmed official dates and sends parents to the current What’s On page for genuinely dated events. It was updated in August 2026 from council and Queensland Government sources.

School-holiday calendar

Queensland state-school breaks drive council and provider activity:

• Spring 2026: 19 September–5 October;
• Summer 2026–27: 12 December 2026–26 January 2027;
• Autumn 2027: 26 March–11 April;
• Winter 2027: 26 June–11 July;
• Spring 2027: 18 September–4 October;
• Summer 2027–28: from 11 December 2027.

Use the Department’s current calendar and the holiday guide. Program dates are not inferred from the break itself.

Whale-season events

Hervey Bay’s council/regional event strategy identifies whale-season events as annual tourism and community anchors. A family calendar should wait for the organiser’s current:

• date;
• location;
• start/finish time;
• ticket/free status;
• age information;
• cancellation terms.

Do not use a tourism article’s general whale season as a festival date.

Christmas

Council strategy and past official programs establish recurring Christmas-event names, including Hervey Bay Carols. The calendar does not publish a 2027 date until the organiser announces it.

When dates appear, separate:

• carols;
• markets;
• lighting events;
• library/gallery programs;
• one-off provider events.

An image that says “Saturday 9 December” without the year is not enough.

Shows and one-offs

Touring shows, theatre, cinema events and council workshops belong in the calendar when the venue publishes a current date. Use:

• venue-owned pages.

The page does not scrape resale or third-party ticket pages when an organiser source exists.

By age

Babies and toddlers

Prioritise event duration, pram access, toilets, shade/noise and an exit plan. Library early-years events often have clear age bands.

Primary age

Check workshops, parades, free art, holiday programs and family performances. Booking can matter even when admission is free.

Tweens and teens

Look for youth events, Teen Zine, Manga/Anime, Art Club Teens, live music, theatre, skate/BMX events and older-age holiday activities. The teen guide is the permanent fallback.

Publishing workflow

Each November

• create the next-year edition;
• import official Queensland dates;
• list recurring event names with dates blank;
• link organisers.

Weekly

• check council and organiser feeds;
• add confirmed date/time/location;
• record checked date;
• remove or mark cancelled events.

Event week

• recheck booking status and weather;
• link the organiser cancellation notice;
• do not rewrite cancellation terms.

Frequently asked questions

Is an event listed because it ran last year?

No. A recurring name can appear as “date not yet announced”, but a date needs a current source.

Where is the 2027 Fraser Coast Show Holiday?

It was not yet published/gazetted on the official Queensland page at the July 2026 check.

Can businesses submit events?

Yes through the listing enquiry, with an organiser-owned page containing the current date, location, age and contact.

Are free events guaranteed to have places?

No. Free events can require booking or reach capacity.
