Hervey Bay school holiday guide — Spring 2026

Queensland state-school Spring holidays run Saturday 19 September to Monday 5 October 2026. Term 4 starts Tuesday 6 October 2026. Those dates come from the Queensland Department of Education and were checked in July 2026.

This is the evergreen holiday-guide structure: stable places are listed now, while event dates and programs are refreshed from council/provider pages two to three weeks before the break. A program is never copied forward from another holiday.

Before the holidays

By 10 August

• publish the first edition;
• check every provider’s holiday page;
• open vacation-care enrolment links;
• note which event calendars have not yet announced programs.

Early September

• add current library, gallery, Youth Moves and provider sessions;
• recheck WetSide reopening/status;
• remove sold-out or cancelled events;
• confirm ages, prices and booking links.

During the break

• check cancellations and weather daily for event-led content;
• keep the permanent guide URL and update the visible checked date;
• never change an old date silently.

Free activities

WetSide

Council publishes free entry and free Aqua Ninja, with large slides priced separately. WetSide closes from May to mid-September for winter maintenance, so do not assume it has reopened for the first holiday weekend without checking the live council page.

Parks and playgrounds

Use the playground guide to choose by fencing, shade and toilets. Pialba Adventure Playground has the broadest combined facility record; Oleander Park’s younger-child area and Margaret Lin Reserve have explicit fencing statements.

Library and gallery

Fraser Coast Libraries and Hervey Bay Regional Gallery publish current school-holiday programs. Individual event pages govern date, age, cost and booking.

The new Fraser Coast Library is planned to open 31 August 2026. Confirm the operating location.

Skate and BMX

The Pump Track, SkateSide and Craignish BMX are free public facilities. Check council notices and conditions. No safety rating is made here.

Bookable activities

Current providers with published holiday or casual inventory include:

• Aquavue kayak hire, subject to age and minor rules.

The current timetable/booking page is required. A provider’s existence does not prove that a holiday session has space.

Vacation care

Use the vacation-care comparison for approved-service records and links. The census includes Helping Hands services, Catholic OSHC, St James, FCAC Roos Care, Bayside Kids and other registered vacation-care services.

Check:

• dates and daily hours;
• eligibility and enrolment;
• program/outing;
• full daily fee and extras;
• Child Care Subsidy process;
• current availability directly with the provider.

A workshop is not presented as full-day care.

Babies and toddlers

The school-holiday calendar can disrupt regular term groups. Check whether Storytime, Rattle & Rhyme, Play With Your Kids, BabyGym or swim classes continue.

Low-key alternatives:

• fenced younger-child playground;
• WetSide TotSide if open;
• normal library visit;
• short foreshore walk;
• provider-confirmed early-years class.

Do not overschedule every weekday. A blank day is allowed.

Tweens and teens

Teen planning is its own section:

• Pump Track, SkateSide or BMX;
• Timezone laser tag, VR and arcades;
• bowling or a film;
• kayak hire subject to provider rules;
• fishing trip with published child information;
• Art Club Teens, Teen Zine or Manga/Anime when current;
• Youth Moves activities within the published age;
• martial arts trial or club sport where available.

Rainy-day plan

The truly indoor core is Timezone, bowling, cinemas, library, gallery and booked indoor classes. Mini golf is shaded but not published as fully rain-proof.

Build a workable week

Start with the commitments that are hardest to replace: vacation-care days, provider sessions with limited bookings and any activity tied to a current event time. Add weather-dependent outdoor plans later, once the forecast is useful. Keep one genuinely indoor fallback that does not depend on a place being described merely as shaded.

For siblings in different age bands, avoid assuming one program accepts both. Check the published minimum and maximum age for each booking, then plan a shared park, library or meal stop around it if practical. For teens, offer a shortlist early enough that bookings are still available rather than filling the timetable with primary-age activities.

Save the provider link, booking confirmation, address, cancellation policy and day-of update in one place. Reopen the live source on the morning; this guide is a planning layer, not a substitute for the organiser’s operational notice.

Food and breaks

The kid-friendly eating guide records only published features: kids menu, play area, high chairs, access, enclosure and park/Esplanade relationship.

Bringing food to a public park may be simpler. Check barbecue and shelter facilities on the council record.

Are these dates for all Queensland schools?

They are Queensland state-school dates. Independent and Catholic schools may publish their own calendars; check the school.

When are individual programs added?

As soon as the organiser publishes a current event page, then rechecked two to three weeks before the break.

Is WetSide open for Spring holidays?

It normally closes May to mid-September, but check the current council page for the exact 2026 reopening/status.

Does the guide show sold-out care places?

No. Availability belongs to the provider.
