Practical local guide
The Hervey Bay kids’ birthday hub
Venue, cake, entertainer and party-hire research in one factual planning hub, with current provider links, age questions and a no-surprises booking sequence.
Updated 1 August 2026 · 12 min read
The birthday hub covers the jobs around the venue: cake, decorations, entertainment, hire, food and the running order. At launch every verified listing is free. A future paid tier may add placement or presentation, but source-backed inclusion and disclosure remain separate.
Providers were checked in July 2026 from their own websites or official Facebook pages. Missing package prices are shown as not published.
Compare by age and budget shape
Prices are not forced into a false cheapest-to-dearest ranking: minimum guests, food, room time and included play differ. Use the budget shape below, then request the full current total.
| Format | Useful age band | Budget shape to confirm | Main extra cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Council park and shelter | Any age, with age-appropriate equipment | Council booking fee where a booking is required, plus food and supplies | Cake, food, hire and weather backup |
| Cinema | Primary age to teens, subject to classification | Tickets per guest plus snacks | Reserved seating or food |
| Bowling or mini golf | Primary age to teens | Per-person play or minimum package | Shoe hire, food and party space |
| Arcade and laser tag | Primary age to teens | Package minimum and inclusions | Game credit, food and extra guests |
| Gymnastics or pool activity | Provider-published age only | Hosted package or group admission | Supervision terms and food space |
| Mobile entertainer at home or a venue | Provider-published age only | Time block, travel and guest capacity | Venue, shade, setup and wet-weather plan |
A party in a council park
Fraser Coast Regional Council accepts park and venue booking enquiries through its Book a park or venue page. The council page links to its online booking system and explains that some activities need approval.
Before inviting guests, confirm:
- whether the shelter or area is bookable and available;
- the current fee in council’s 2026–27 fees and charges schedule or the eBooking quote;
- permitted structures, stakes, powered equipment and commercial suppliers;
- barbecue, toilet, parking and accessibility details on the individual park record;
- setup/pack-down time and the wet-weather position.
An exact park-hire fee is not reproduced here because the applicable fee depends on the booking type and the current council schedule. Use the linked council quote rather than a copied number. The playground comparison helps shortlist facilities, but it does not reserve a shelter.
Start with the venue
Choose the venue or location before ordering a cake or backdrop. The party venue comparison covers Timezone, bowling, mini golf, gymnastics, cinema, aquatic and public-space options.
The venue decision controls:
- guest capacity;
- age fit;
- food and cake rules;
- indoor/outdoor exposure;
- access and setup time;
- whether an external entertainer is allowed;
- where a supplier can deliver.
Do not book a supplier around an unconfirmed park table or party room.
Cake makers
Debz Delightz
Debz Delightz publishes custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies and personalised toppers from a registered home-based Hervey Bay business. The current public page does not publish a standard price.
Ask for:
- collection date/time and pickup instructions;
- number and size of serves;
- flavour and design brief;
- ingredient and allergen information;
- storage and transport;
- deposit and final-payment terms;
- lead time for toppers or custom decoration.
The provider’s “registered” wording is repeated only as published; this directory does not infer a separate registration detail.
Bloomin Cakes n Bakes
Bloomin Cakes n Bakes publishes cupcakes, pull-apart cakes and cupcake bouquets. Pickup address and current pricing were not public on the source checked.
Confirm the same serving, allergen, storage and lead-time details. Cupcake formats can reduce cutting and serving work, but that is a planning observation, not a recommendation.
Balloons, backdrops and party hire
Fairytale Balloons & Events Hervey Bay publishes balloon styling, picnics, garlands, backdrops and prop hire across Hervey Bay and Fraser Coast.
Ask what the quoted price includes:
- design and hire items;
- delivery radius and fee;
- setup and pack-down;
- collection time;
- bond or damage terms;
- wall/ground fixing requirements;
- wet-weather or wind plan;
- venue approval.
A public park may restrict stakes, structures or commercial setup. Check council requirements and never assume a backdrop can be installed anywhere.
Face painting and entertainers
The verified mobile provider leads are:
- Fraser Coast Face Painting;
- FantaSea Faces, which also publishes mascot costumes, craft and themed parties;
- Smiley Kylie’s Face Painting, which publishes face painting, balloon twisting and character costumes.
The accessible sources did not publish a complete current price or minimum age. Ask:
- age range and expected number of children;
- number of faces/balloons possible in the booked time;
- travel area and fee;
- setup space, shade and lighting;
- product/allergen or skin-sensitivity information the provider supplies;
- insurance information if required by the venue;
- cancellation and weather terms.
Do not publish third-party ratings or assume that a child is comfortable with face paint or costumes.
Food
If the venue does not include food, use the kid-friendly eating guide for current kids-menu, function, access and play-area facts.
For takeaway or catering, ask the venue and supplier about delivery timing, food storage, serving equipment, allergens and waste. This directory does not provide food-safety advice beyond provider information.
Party sequence that avoids double-booking
Six to eight weeks out
- choose the activity/venue;
- confirm date, capacity, deposit and cancellation;
- ask about external suppliers and cake;
- contact cake and high-demand entertainment providers.
Three to four weeks out
- confirm guest count range;
- lock the cake design/serves;
- book balloons or entertainer;
- send venue address, access and setup rules to suppliers.
One week out
- give final numbers where required;
- confirm running order and delivery/collection;
- check weather for outdoor plans;
- confirm dietary information through the appropriate provider.
Day before
- read all booking confirmations;
- charge phones and save contacts;
- prepare candles/knife only if venue rules allow;
- avoid adding last-minute activities that disrupt the paid schedule.
By age
Babies and toddlers
Keep it shorter. Confirm high chairs, pram access, nappy-changing facilities, fenced boundaries and whether siblings can use the activity.
Primary age
Activity-first venues simplify the schedule. Face painting, balloons and cake can be added if the venue permits and the child wants them.
Tweens and teens
Ask before booking traditional entertainers. The teen birthday guide prioritises laser tag, bowling, cinema, mini golf, kayaking, fishing and creative options.
Future paid listings
The birthday hub is a natural future listings category. The launch rule is:
- verified inventory lists free;
- paid placement is clearly labelled;
- provider-supplied claims still need a source;
- payment does not buy a review or “best” label.
No outreach is sent until approved.
Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should I order a cake?
Ask the provider. Lead time changes with design and demand; this guide does not invent a standard.
Can entertainers work in a council park?
Check council requirements and the provider’s setup needs. A public booking does not automatically permit every commercial setup.
Are prices compared?
Only when providers publish like-for-like current prices. Most supplier prices are quote-based, so this guide compares the questions and scope.
Can providers submit a listing?
Yes. The listing enquiry page asks only for the information needed to verify a listing.
